January 22, 2019: In light of the recurring incidents at the GM Powertrain plant involving hate messages and symbols that have led to a lawsuit against management, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, civil rights activist, visited Toledo on Tuesday, January 22 to speak with some of the GM workers and to hold a press conference to address the issues at The Truth Gallery.


Cleveland area nonprofits partner with City of Cleveland to “Play It Forward”

CLEVELAND: On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Monday, January 21, 2019, a group of five Cleveland nonprofit and public organizations kicked off a three-month donation drive for gently-used musical instruments. The instruments will be assessed, repaired, and gifted to children participating in recreation center programs in the Glenville Neighborhood in Cleveland’s 9th Ward.

LANSING, January 2019: Healthcare employers in Genesee County, northern Michigan [Flint] and those that provide inpatient pediatric psychiatric services throughout the state will better be able to recruit and retain medical, dental and mental healthcare providers through a student loan repayment program offered by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).

The Cleveland Museum of Art announces record attendance in 2018

CLEVELAND, January 15, 2019: The Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) has announced record-breaking annual attendance figures, having welcomed 769,435 visitors in 2018, a 31% increase compared to 586,672 visitors in 2017. The total eclipses the previous record set more than 30 years ago in 1987, when the museum welcomed 719,620 guests. Since its founding in 1916, more than 44 million people have walked through CMA’s doors.

Author Visit: Anthony Ray Hinton: After spending 30 years on death row for crimes he did not commit, Anthony Ray Hinton is now the author of The Sun Does Shine: How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row, an Oprah’s Book Club selection. Hinton speaks widely on prison reform, the power of faith, and forgiveness.


Go Ape Fun Run at the Toledo Zoo

TOLEDO: In conjunction with the Cabin Fever Weekend activities of Not Monkeyin’ Around Day, the Toledo Zoo is hosting the Go Ape Fun Run on Saturday, February 23, 2019. There will be two runs, a ½ mile route for pre-k to grade 3 and a mile route for 4th – 6th graders. The ½ mile run begins at 9:15 a.m. and is $3/runner. The mile run begins at 9:30 a.m. and costs $5/runner.

Latin Labor Council, others seek skilled trade recruits at TPS Career Connect Expo

TOLEDO, January 16, 2019: As soon as a Toledo Public Schools student walked into the SeaGate Convention Centre, one of the first tables they could stop to get information belonged to the Latin Labor Council, with four friendly Latino faces ready to share their careers as electricians. The group gathered at the first-ever TPS Career Connect Expo, hoping to find some young Latinos ready to enter the skilled trades.
